Is it old clothes? Is it thrift store finds? Is it second-hand clothing?
Yes, Yes, Yes...but that is not the only thing that defines vintage. Vintage is really defined by the years or era.
Here is a little information for you.
Antique clothing: This is any piece of clothing before the 1920s.
Vintage: This is clothing that was made after 1920 but before the 1980s.
However, the most important thing to remember about vintage clothing is..."
any clothing that is less than a quarter of a century old is NOT vintage
." So anything that is at LEAST 25 years old is considered vintage.
Each vintage era is described by decades...except for the La Belle Époque or Pre-War period which spanned 1890-1914. After that each era had the following decades:
- The Roaring Twenties (WWI)
- The Depressed Thirties
- The Forties: (WWII - the decade of rationing)
- The Fifties New Look
- The Swinging Sixties (Mod, Hippie)
- The Hedonistic Seventies (Disco)
- The Eighties (Punk)
Which era do you like the most?? I like ALL of them.
